We're moving!

Why are we moving?
As much as we love The Worlds End in Mulbarton, we’ve simply outgrown it. The room we meet in is regularly so full that some members can’t get in to hear what we have to say or join in any activities. We didn't want to mess you, our members around unnecessarily and unlike last time we moved, we haven't been in a rush to find somewhere new. So for the past few months we have been searching for a suitable new venue to hold our meetings; contacting, visiting and evaluating a number of places before making a decision.
Where are we moving to?
We have secured Hethersett Social Club’s function room for our meetings. The social club is in the centre of Hethersett (postcode: NR9 3DB, click for Google Maps) and is a short drive from the A47 Norwich Southern Bypass. For anyone coming from the North or East of the county it will be about an extra mile on their journey, for anyone coming from the West or South, it will be about 2 miles less.
Why Hethersett?
We’ve considered lots of things when deciding where to hold our meetings including:
- Where our members live – we used some online tools to work out where you all live, and where is central for you all. You can see a map of (almost) all member locations here.
- Proximity to main roads for ease of access.
- The facilities offered – parking, bar, garden, audio/visual etc.
- Availability for the first Tuesday of the month.
- Cost to hire.
When are we moving?
The first meeting at Hethersett Social Club will be on Tuesday May 1st 2018. To help everyone find their way there we will lead a convoy from The Worlds End to Hethersett. One of the committee members will also stay behind at the Worlds End in case of any late arrivals. You can of course go straight to Hethersett if you prefer.
What’s the new place like?
The social club is a nice family-orientated club with a bar (cans of drink from £1, pints of beer approx. £3.50 - part of their bar tariff can be found here), enough seating for up to 90 people, a stage so everyone can see Paul when he speaks, use of projector and microphone when we want. In the main part of the club there are also pool tables, dart boards, table football and a snooker room. It also has a large car park (with some small speed bumps) and an outdoor play area for kids/BBQs.
Do they do food?
The social club does bar snacks - crisps, nuts, chocolate bars etc but for those of you who like to eat before meetings the nearby Queen's Head Pub and King's Head Pub both do food and have good reviews - let us know what you think if you try them out. For those that like to relax afterwards at McDonalds, there is a new restaurant just opened at the Thickthorn junction less than two miles from the social club.
We hope Hethersett will be our home for many years to come and we all come to love it as we have Mulbarton.
